"I find myself incredibly fascinating and this blog bears witness to that simple fact. Friends, from far and wide, are often pestered to keep abreast of my life and opinions. I offer sincere greetings to guests who stumble here by accident too."

Down I-5
I will be travelling to Seattle today. It is time to catch up with friends. Bret and Joel were high school friends from the other side of the continent. The three of us ran, The Harbor Gameroom (March 16, 2004), an arcade at Sunapee Harbor, New Hampshire in the early 1980's. The last time we were together was at our 25th High School Reunion in 2002.
I am sure that I'll be able to blog from there. Bret is in the midst of adding computers for the kids, a wide-sreen notebook book for his lovely wife, and enough wireless networking to tie it all together.

Tipperary Two
Last Wednesday, I included a picture of Tipperary Park and the Friendship Gardens there. The photo today shows a small, red bridge which crosses the stream.
From this angle, the buildings in the background prove this is a city park.

Who Said, "Hotmail's Not So Hot?"
To: Connie Shen, Microsoft (Intl Vendor)
From: Dennis S. Hurd
From: Dennis S. Hurd
Thank you and welcome back. I had extensive email with your colleague, Jeffson Chen. We had lots of correspondence and no final solution. I think he has now 'given up' on me.
Interesting new changes: I moved away from Outlook Express after years and into Outlook 2002 which had sat dormant on my hard disk.
The problem we outlined a month ago still remains. If I do my "mail run" in the mornings I can send and receive to all accounts. Of course, my POP accounts ALWAYS work. Generally in the afternoons about 70% of my accounts will complete. I will state right now: I have four hotmail accounts. I use one for work, one is personal, one deals with a reunion web site and the other is also for correspondence with another web site I run. My computer also has a different user who logs on to a different XP account (with their own background and options). At the same time my hotmail accounts stopped working, that one did too.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason as to which accounts will be accessible at any particular time. The error messages are slightly different in Outlook but generally are pointing towards the same problem we've identified previously.
I always auto-update from the XP Windows update. I think my trouble started at around the time I went to xpsp2.

It's Not Far to Tipperary
This photo is not new, but shows a scene in 'my' Tipperary Park as mentioned in yesterday's blog entry. New Westminster's Parks and Recreation Department has even made use of my photo on its web site. The Friendship Garden area contains an early attempt at allowing an urban stream to see the light of day. Nowadays, attempts at restoration are fairly common here, and in the salmon-bearing streams in BC and the Pacific Northwest.
The garden and stream area was built in 1963 as a tribute to New Westminster's Sister City of Moriguchi, Japan. It was created because Hurricane "Freda" had blown down most of the trees in that section of Tipperary Park the previous year.

New Mail-to-Blog Option
Wonderful new enhancements have been added to www.blogger.com. The whole interface is now clean and effective. I also just found an option that allows email messages to be 'sent to' the blog. This will be very convenient when adding entries 'from the road'. This is a test message!
Seeing the Forest for the Trees
Now that we've been living here coming up on eight years, I was trying to decide why I am often more relaxed than during my decade and a half in the Persian Gulf. I wasn't nervous due to proximity to war. It may have been a bit to do with being more easily prone to workahoic tendencies in one's 20's and 30's.
Yet, I've come to conclude that my emotional well-being probably has something to do with my physical environment. It was easy to appreciate the stark beauty of the desert in the Gulf countries; however, I think I missed forests.
Being able to easy step into a green space makes me really at ease. There's even a park about 3 blocks away where I seldom find any other people. I can sit near the small stream and easily find peace of mind.

I've increased the default size of my AvantGo subscription. It is a way of syncing this blog when you download the daily news for your Palm or PocketPC. (You will find the button in the right column under my face.) As a user you can edit settings for any of your subscriptions. For example if you change the level, you can also obtain pages when I link outside of my blog in an entry.
Where Are All The Lights Bright?
As we've been touching on urbanization over the last few days, I thought it might be time for something that fits in musically. How's this?

This is one of the very first songs I can remember
hearing on AM radio as a pre-schooler. Well, maybe
it was the first song that I remember trying to sing
along to. Interestingly, I'd never really thought of
Petula Clark as a part of the British Invasion of the
US music scene in the 1960's.

People Actually Live There
The entire Vancouver, BC downtown doesn't vacate after working hours. This is unique among most small, North American cities. (There are slightly over 2 million people in the Greater Vancouver Regional District.) Here's a photograph of high-rise residences taken from Granville Island.
