Summer's On Its Way!

The timing of these two vacations is great. First, Canadians celebrate Victoria Day and on the following weekend there's Memorial Day in the USA. They're both three-day weekends in the respective countries. This means that people get a chance to get out and that summer is close at hand. New Westminster, being a small city, has a sense of community that is lacking in larger places. We kick off with events for these weekends as the start of the summer summer and ...

It's too bad it's grey and raining today though.

Hamsters in the Hinterland

Photo: H3 Enjoys time to explore on a trip.
Here's H3 on a rest stop on a road trip. This little
fellow hasn't gone as far afield as H2 who travelled
with us from Vancouver to St. John's, Newfoundland
and back during the summer of 2001.

Sharing Networked Drives

Photo: Network Drive PropertiesI'm including this here just because somebody is curious:

First, look under Network Connections --> Properties for your wireless network. Ensure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is enabled. This must be true for the 'office' machine as well as those connecting to it.

To start files flying around your network, open My Documents. Next, move any directory (to which you wish to provide access) into Shared Files under Other Places. You can rip a musical CD, put it under Shared Music and access it from any computer in the house.

You should also find access to My Network Places in the same area. You should have access to network resources. When in the garden with your notebook, try printing off a document on the printer in the office! So, start exploring there too.

It all sounds so exciting.

I want more computer equipment too!

Cameras Unleashed!

We are considering taking a trip to Sri Lanka for a couple of months in the fall.

I don't know about you, but I am never really satisfied with tourist web links. Even official sites are high on words but short on photographs. I have had some pictures on Webshots for a few years. Yet, thousands of others have been uploading for much longer.

If you really want to see how a place looks, try a search of the Community Pages there. I found thousands of Sri Lankan images, so it was quite easy to get a taste of the seaside and 'upcountry'. Click on any of the thumbnails below to see the larger pictures at www.webshots.com.

Sony DCR-HC40

I got one on the weekend but played with it for the first time today. How far things have come since my last analog camcorder! The new one is so cute and portable. Perhaps, this will provide the impetus to actually carry the device around and shoot some video!

Burning events onto DVDs will be easy (but surely not using the software that came from Sony).

The road was a clear shot back to good, ole BC!

Success!

It is a bit late for today's entry, but earlier today I had a most wonderful, authentic, greasy breakfast!

It was amazingly fun tearing open lots and lots of boxes. Bret spent more on home networking and new equipment than an annual PC budget for a medium-sized firm. The new office PC is humming. The router's lights are flashing. Soon, the newest notebook will be unleashed. There are computers for the kids still in boxes. Standard systems are very advanced nowadays!

I want wireless access too but I guess I need a notebook first. At the moment, I am typing away on one in Wirta's garden. The space is called 'Poet's Corner' and stone tiles, potted plants, and shade trees surround me. There is a small waterfall babbling a few metres away.

I will have to hit the road soon. Although New Westminster is only 130 miles, it always seems to take over three hours. I must stop for breaks too often.

Thanks all for now.
