"I find myself incredibly fascinating and this blog bears witness to that simple fact. Friends, from far and wide, are often pestered to keep abreast of my life and opinions. I offer sincere greetings to guests who stumble here by accident too."

Stanley Kowalski
In this blog, I generally post pictures I've taken or screenshots from my computer. Yet, in order to include a photo to accompany my remarks today, I needed to locate a photograph taken nearly 54 years ago.
Marlon Brando died yesterday at the age of 80. Many headlines today will focus on his role in The Godfather series but I wanted to find Mr. Brando as Stanley Kowalski. This wardrobe check boasts the young actor in an amazing role.
A few months back, I discovered the DVD director's cut of A Streetcar Named Desire. In fact on April 25th, I mentioned it right here. I was genuinely impressed.
I'm not alone in my respect for that movie. The film is #45 on the American Film Institute's 100 Greatest Movies of All Time which was compiled in 1998. Thanks to the proliferation of DVD's, you might be able to go pick it up at your video store today. I'd recommend it.
Oh, and someday I do have to go to New Orleans ...

There's No Place Like Chrome
One day last week when I drove back from work, I followed a brand-new Chevy Malibu. I think it was a rental car and was all white. The rear seemed frighteningly bare with just square-edged sheet metal and several very non-descript taillight lenses.
Chrome has been retro so long that it is definitely time for its automotive renaissance.
Our Royal City Show & Shine is on for the weekend of July 10th and 11th. Columbia Street is closed off and hundreds of vintage vehicles arrive. Then, thousands of people arrive to look at them. One will have an opportunity to pay respect to the unabashed and copious use of chrome.

Cariboo Heights
I'd never stepped there, although
it is within a eagle's sight
away.
Usual life seems to boil down to
just running between places I already
know.
Today, it took a dogged focus to
hit a different
path.
That trail was hardly new, just new in
stride for my own
sandals.
I'd never stepped there and I’d never
stopped there. Yet today, I
did.

Happy Canada Day!
In 1867, the British Parliament passed the British North America Act. In effect that legislation created the Canadian confederation. On July 1st the following year, the Governor General signed a proclamation celebrating the formation. The name Dominion Day was established by statue in 1879 and stayed in effect until 1982. It was at that time the holiday became known as Canada Day.

Sun and Sand
Yesterday was yet again another fine day. Perfect weather for the area made it a great day to be off from work, pack a lunch, and head down Marine Drive toward Wreck Beach. We rediscovered the fact the trails are steep but the hike rewarding. It is amazingly close to an urban center, but you'd never know!

New Westminster Public Library
During most of that decade and a half working the Gulf region, I was fortunate to work for organizations that either had a private or educational library. Still, at present, I am so very grateful for my city library. A place where any resident can come for reading and a/v materials is so worthy of funding. I love libraries. They combine my respect for education with a love of collecting. If I wanted to begin a new career ...

Property taxes are due in a couple of days. We've already
paid and don't mind anting up for useful services such as our
excellent little, municipal library.

Blame for the Broken Blog
This site was 'down' for over 40 hours. To find out why, read below:
We are aware of the problem with your domain and are working to resolve it at this time. The problem is not specific to your domain, and it appears that a network connection was broken over the weekend when Telus was in transfering more lines and connections to our new offices. The problem should be resolved shortly, and we ask those affected to please check their service again this afternoon in a few hours, or tommorow morning. THis service interruption was not intentional, especially when we were not in the office, and it will be resolved as fast as possible. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
jordan

See No Evil ...
You probably take it for granted: you can surf anywhere you want. You can decide what is suitable information to read and study. I'm posting this graphics file today, just to remind you that such liberties are not universal. In some places, others decide which web sites are appropriate and which aren't. Here's an example:

"We apologize the site you are attempting to visit has been blocked due to its content being inconsistent with the religious, cultural, political and moral values of the United Arab Emirates."
I guess the universal, free-flow of ideas must be very threatening to undemocratic and unelected regimes of that region. There cannot be learning, spiritual growth, or development of values where there's censorship. By the way, the site blocked by this message is simply orkut.
