You Are What You Eat

Advance to next entry in archives.I'm still spending a little time here working on creating useful blog labels. Those are the little links you see beneath this and all entries. If you click one, it'll take you to a freshly-created page containing every entry containing that label. These might stretch from the present time through the inception of the blog in September 2003.

This morning is our typical grocery shopping time at the Canadian Superstore in Coquitlam. This made me wonder what I'd included under the topic of food. It seems to still be a favourite topic even though I've managed to lose 11 kilograms simply by trying to be a little more careful. If I am what I eat then lately I'm less. To see the food-related entries, just click the picture below or the actual label under it.

Come Now ... Eat Your Rat!

The title is not a quote from this movie but if you've seen it, you know what it means. I saw the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame before this film.

Time: Morning.
Year: Early 1960's.
Location: A beach near Los Angeles.

Something's Fishy

If you've ever spent much time around here, you'll know that I never include cutesy web jokes. In reality I'm a pretty humorous person, but little of that comes across in my eJournal and images. I guess when it comes to the keyboard, I'm usually all business.

So, it should seem very unusual for me to add a cartoon. Let me, however, add a little background. I'm not quite sure why I ever originally saved this image as doing so would seem untypical. However, I found it on a full, duel-layer DVD. I made this back up for files going back to 1985. In fact, I put it in the drive to look for any document at least 20 years old to add here today. I am not sure whether MS Office Word 07 can even open a WordPerfect document as ancient as that.

The disk contains a lot. I found myself looking through the maze of subdirectories. (Ahem, nowadays, I guess they're called folders.) It was rather like treasure hunting. I found this particular image in E:/Master DVD Backup 1985-2007/1985-1999_05/old p133/Graphics/JPG/Cartoons & Stuff/. It was called fishsplit.jpg and was created on September 21, 1998.

See, my entry has even made the following seem less funny.

Chasing the Big Five in Kenya

Adding labels to my eJournal and images has meant going through nearly four years of daily entries with a fine-toothed comb. I don't mind taking the time as I've got a copious amount in August.

What has bothered me is how unrepresentative this blog is in regards to actually painting a picture of my 48 years on earth. Actually, few would believe that by entering a mere paragraph or two, even 1400 times, one could sum up a life. It's true; however, I have now vowed to chat much less about the weather! (Today is starting off to be fantastic though.)

Also, I run into a problem by spending a near equal amount of time in Flickr. I do my Daily Picture Parade, add lots of what's going on currently, and took to scanning a while back. In my mind these two repositories of Dennis data are intertwined. I have mentioned Flickr a lot but a visitor cannot possibly know what's on the other site when reading here. Even a link doesn't seem as powerful as pasting the image right on this page.

So, as there was only a single entry regarding a trip to Kenya in February 1994, I put this one of Jay standing in the middle of souvenir sellers in Nairobi. I know that was a long time ago, but I need to add to my world label.

One for the Bots!

Today is just for maintenance and to show you how my progress for organizing this blog is getting along. The labels listing continues to change and develop. I shouldn't think that that will stop at this point. So, today's lisiting is just sort of a work in progress. As well as giving you an idea of how I'm beginning to organize old entries, putting the list here will give the search engines a chance to find all the new blog pages.

[THESE LABELS ARE IN EFFECT OF THIS DATE. THEY MAY BE CHANGED OR ELIMINATED IN THE FUTURE.]

Feel free to click any of the following. But get 'em while they're hot because supplies may be limited.

Spying on the Geese

Photo: Jay on an observation deck at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Delta, BCI really cannot imagine living without a vehicle. I believe we, as a society, should continue to worship the concept of personal transportation.

Yes, going green is important. But I can imagine a planet where cars are carbon neutral. Think of the technological innovation that came from the push to land on the moon. Our modern landscape wouldn't look the same without the technologies that were developed. I'd like to see an equally determined focus on developing new technologies for personal transport. What a goldmine! The only way it could happen is through legislation. Mandating stringent vehicle gas consumption would be a good start. I'm not usually one to call for increased government regulation but the situation is warped by power and influence in the status quo.

Anyway, I decided to get all vehicle slap-happy because we took a very short little trip today. Although I've been able to look out the window and see the Fraser River for over eleven years, we'd never really been to its delta. Jay noticed the park-type designation on a map. We looked up the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary on the Internet. It is about 40 kilometers away and was worth the trip.

There were lots of paths to walk. There were also many ducks, geese, and blackberries!

Riding the Rails

Some west-end Vancouver folk have a poor sense of geography. They rarely, if ever, make it beyond Thurlow Street. Some are quite convinced that the city of New Westminster is somewhere back east near Winnipeg or something. And many are under the false impression that they need a passport to travel to Langley.

Photo: The end of the Vancouver Pride 2007

In actuality, our apartment is only 25 minutes away via the SkyTrain. The main problem occurs after getting off at Granville Station as it can take half again as long for a bus to mosey along.

Last night, as downtown New West. residents, we were downtown for the finale of the HSBC Celebration of Lights fireworks competition which was quite magnificent. We didn't get home til midnight but went down again this morning for watch the Pride parade. What fantastic weather for our three-day weekend! Tomorrow is BC Day, a provincial holiday.Return to previous entry in archives.
