Climate Change

Unlike today, the weather was superb yesterday. It was clear and warm. The photo shows my building as photographed from the New Westminster City Hall. Mt. Baker lies about 60 miles away in Washington State.

I experience the, often profound, affects of living in a place where the weather can be bipolar. When the sun is out, I have the overriding feeling that I've got to get outside. It's as if I don't want to waste any of limited times of nice weather. This is followed by overwhelming guilt if I fail to walk around in the sunshine. In the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, seeing the sun is such a precious gift for about two thirds of each year!

Alpine Appreciation

Photo: Mt. Baker, Heather Meadows, Washington State. One of my photos uploaded to Flickr today.I woke up this morning before a lovely sunrise. From the balcony, I was able to look across the Fraser and see the tip of Mt. Baker in Washington State.

After breakfast, we decided to take a little trip as the weather was nice. The rest of the week promises to be rainy, so we jumped in the truck and went to the Aldergrove border crossing into Washington. Apparently, others also had the idea of a road trip today as we had to wait in queue for fifty minutes at the border. Incidentally, in order to jump the line, one just has to stop by the duty-free shop and then be directed back into the line far ahead of others. I'll remember this for next time.

We ended up driving around a bit more than needed, but the roads were nice and the deciduous trees colourful. At the top, Heather Meadows was patiently waiting. There was almost no snow at this point today, but I'm sure in the next couple of weeks, it'll be blanketed.

We came home through Bellingham, stopping at the Country Buffet at the mall for a 3 o'clock lunch. I ate like a pig, and consequently am still full. The wait coming into Canada at the Peace Arch was about a half hour.Return to previous entry in archives.
