Those College Daze & Thumbnails

Teaching is an art and professional development is a life-long process. I have been lucky in having made a living at it for well over twenty years! In North America and internationally, I've worked with a wide and weird selection of colleagues. They have aided me in forming a philosophy of education. My very first steps in becoming an educator are listed here.

Graduate Studies in Teaching English as a Second Language & Linguistics

The University of Washington

Seattle, Washington 98105 U.S.A.

41 Quarter Credit Hours

From 9/83 to 6/84

After several years of work in an elementary school in the country of Kuwait, I took graduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle. In 1984, I obtained my teaching certificate with an endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). I "team taught" in a K-8 program at the Islamic School of Seattle and found the experience interesting and productive. The geography of western Washington state is simply stunning. The rare, superb view of Mt. Rainier made all those gray, winter days seem much less discouraging. I never quite learned how to say "Warrrshington" like the natives do!

In September of 1977, I first attended Keene State College of the UNH System. Keene is about 45 miles down Route 10 from my childhood home. I travelled that road many times! Keene is a pleasant college town and life was interesting. There were always lots things to do on campus. Occasional trips to Dover to meet up with the UNH crowd were possible too, as long as my old Pinto* continued to run. I attended classes in the Education Program and received my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1981.
