The Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year is the period of first few days of a lunar year. It usually comes after Christmas and New Year.

The Lunar New Year is quite a great event in the Chinese community as a whole as well as in every individual family. Long before it arrives, every individual family begins cleaning their house and buying lots of presents. Children look forward to it with great eagerness.

The display of flowers is one of the main features of lunar New Year decoration. Some families like peach blossoms very much. According to Chinese tradition, peach blossoms signify prosperity. They are a must in most Chinese firms in order to bring good luck and further in the coming year.

New Year telephones are sent to relatives and friends, and New Year cards and presents are exchanged .When acquaintances meet, they usually say, "Wish you a good bonanza". Actually, the bonanza is enjoyed by the children. After a mere speaking out of that sentence, they receive, as a rule, a red packet from their better sorts. The red packet, according to Chinese costumes, has some money inside.
