The War on Terrorism
and Anti-Americanism

After the September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, anti-Americanism is another phenomena that has gone along with the Americans leading its “War on Terrorism” If the “War on Terrorism” is a new form of a War in the 21st century, anti-Americanism is one of the hottest global issues that is dramatically increasing among a lot of people in the world regardless of their age, religion or race. There are three major reasons for increasing anti-Americanism. They are unclear reasons for attacking Iraq, the self-righteousness of the US’ leaders, and unfair regulations and behaviors for the U.S military personnel overseas.

First of all, it is very unclear and confusing why the U.S plans to attack Iraq. The U.S has been trying to make a case by saying that Iraq has been providing weapons to the terrorist groups. Yet, a lot of journalists, and critics quote, “The U.S plans to attack Iraq not because of Saddam’s “evil,” but to have possession of the oil to boost up the U.S struggling economy.” There is no question that Saddam Hussein is one of the worst dictators of all time, but the U.S has no right to start a war since there are no clear reasons.

Next, another major reason of growing anti-Americanism is caused by the self-righteousness of the U.S’ leaders. The U.S has put their allies in awkward positions by involving them in the “War on Terrorism” The U.S government’s ways of acting results in suicide bombings and anti-war protests around the world. Here is the result of a question asked to the Canadians across the country;

Do you think George W. Bush’s arguments provide enough justifications for the United States’ intension to attack Iraq?

Finally, crimes, incidents caused by the U.S soldiers overseas have been dealt with unfairly. The U.S soldiers’ rape of a Japanese girl in Yokohama, killing two girls by driving a heavily armed vehicle out of the military zone in Korea are only a tip of an iceberg. The soldiers were never charged, but released free by the U.S military courts, not by the countries’ own governments.

Two of the hottest issues around the world, “War on Terrorism” and “Anti-Americanism” are definitely the great threat to the world peace. Although it is clear that September 11th attack brought the conflicts and caused the war, the U.S should think why they got attacked. Then, react carefully with their allies and United Nations instead of ignoring the others’ authorities and driving the mankind into a great danger.
