Fifty years ago, people did not know what the word “Computer” mean. Today, computers play an important role in normal life. This is a big change. It also means people have entered the information age.

The first computer was invented in 1945. It was created by American. In the beginning, the first computer had a 14000 square foot display and a huge amount of hardware. It needed more than four scientists to operate; therefore, it was located in a big room. Scientists called it “Colossus”. Of course, it didn’t have a high speed CPU. Instead, it could calculate a few numbers only. Also, it had a complex control system.

Technical evolution has made the size of computers smaller and smaller. It is hard to imagine that people are using the laptop computers in the coffer shop nowadays. As a result of the high-speed development, computers not only calculate, but also satisfy people’s demands.

Multimedia systems are a good example. Sound and quality graphics are both stuff people are looking forward to. Furthermore, there are a great number of people who have purchased PCs in order to access the Internet. In North America, 86% of the people own a PC. Most of them are teenagers.

From this data, can you imagine the progress of computers that the future will be? From the reports of Microsoft last month, the Tablet Computer had entered the intense completive computer market as a new product. Because it contains lots of high technical functions, such as a touch screen and voice control, it will be widely accepted soon. After a few years, perhaps we can find a new model PC we never imagined before.
