Can Affect Education
Nowadays, if you go to any one of the university, college, and high school,
elementary school or even the kindergarten classrooms, you will not be surprise
to find they provide radio, televisions and projectors for teachers and
students to use. There is no doubt that computer also plays a very
important role in the education area. We can classify the various uses of
computers in education into four categories.
The first form of using computer programming is as a developing tool. People could use computers to create and develop the studying softwares for students. For example, you may get the studying language softwares in the computer stores. As we all know, language environments are very important for the beginners who want to learn a new language. This is why lots of students want to go to Japan to study Japanese and go to Spain to learn Spanish. They want to get as many chances as they can to practice their Japanese or Spanish. Now, software producers developed several of multimedia language softwares which provide learners the real learning language environments. There is another more famous software, created by Seymour Papert (1980), called Logo is very popular in preschool age children. Logo may stimulate children and their interesting of learning mathematics. It is a very interesting programming with lots of graphics. Another form of computer use in education is “programmed instruction” which is created by B.F Skinner(1904-1990). Programmed instruction is a programming to test students little by little while they are learning by themselves. This programming may correct the answers and give the students feedback immediately after the students answer them. The feedback will lead the students to a right direction of responding the questions step by step. The steps would like what a skilled tutor would ask to that student and give the student implication. Another form of using computers in education is imitating and demonstrating experiments. For instance, instead of showing how to dissect a frog real,the instructor may simply show these steps by using a computer to the students in the biological laboratory. The student, who is absent on that day, may finish that lab assignment at home by using a computer. Students may clearly watch how to dissect the frog on the computer screen. Finally, one could use computes as working tools. In nowadays society, computer programming such as word processors, graphic, database, electronic spreadsheets are used widely wherever in the social working areas, schools, or government. People use those productivity tools to work in those social areas and create new technologies for the future.
In conclusion, “we live in a society that is addicted to technology. In fact, we are addicted to technological change, to the belief that technology will make things better tomorrow than they are today.” (Waston1994, p41, http://www.ed.gov/databases/ERIC_Digests/ed385777.htm) I have talked about how the computers using in the education area. We have categorized the idea of using computers in the education into four forms. From what I talked above, I could say that computers have become one of the indispensable parts in our daily lives. We use them everyday in different social areas. People still could use computers to design, invent more new technologies for contributing our world in the near future.
