Women's Status in Computer Technology

As the technologies is growing rapidly, women’s job opportunities in computer technology are increasing gradually. Just keep in mind that computer technology still has a greater number of men than women, therefore, women’s status in Computer Technology still will be a big controversy in today. I will discuss a few advices towards this controversy.

First, as most people know that in order to be very successful in the field of Computer Technology, women are required to obtain their Ph.D’s in Computer Science. In order for women to enter the field of Computer Technology successfully, many young female students are encouraged to study obtain computer knowledge. Young female students should not only obtain affluent computer knowledge but also having sufficient experiences with computers. In the field of Computer Technology, work experiences can be considered as an important factor when females are interviewed for jobs.

Second, there will be some conflicts between males and females in Computer Technology field. Most of the time, males are more likely to obtain the better salaries and positions in a company. However, females tend to be passive, when males are the majority of

employees in a company. I felt that it is unfair for women, since women also gain the same computer science degree before they entered into the Computer Technology field. Females can be knowledgeable and experienced in this field. Sometimes, women tend to be more patient and careful when they are dealing with difficult decisions.

Third, if you can recall one of the most influential women in computer Technology is Grace Murray Hopper. She invented COBOL which is one of the fundamental programming languages.  From the example of Grace Murray Hopper, people can now see that this woman is the first talented programmer in the history. In today, females should not think that Computer Technology is dominated by males. Females have the biggest contribution towards the field of Computer Technology. Grace Murray Hopper can prove that the stereotype of people who think only men can be good at computer; however, Grace is the best example to prove males inaccurate perception. Therefore, females’ status will be rising to higher positions in the future.

Last, due to the popularity of Computer Technology; today’s colleges and universities have more females students enrolled in Computer Science program than before. In another words, educational institutions want to attract more young females into the Computer Technology field.

In conclusion, I have talked about some concerns of females’ status in the field of Computer Technology. Females can feel confident in this field now because Grace Murray Hopper had made a successful advancement for women. I would be glad to see women’s status is rising in the foreseeable future.
