The Death Penalty is also called execution which is a common punishment throughout the world since the Middle Ages.
The execution is the most severe punishment. After the dealth penality was used for several thousand years, many thinkers
started to think about it since 1764 and and Italian legist thought people have to abolish the death penalty. Nowadays, there are more
than one hundred countries abolished the death penality in the world, on the other hand, about eighty countries' which include
China, America, and Japan don't abolish the execution. The arguments of whether abolish the death penality never stop and will
go on.
The Execution is the most severe punishment; consequently, there are two different opinions about whether abolish the death penalty.
People who support the death penalty have three major opinions. First, these people believe that death feared can stop most crimes. Most people have a natural fear of death; therefore, people have to think about what will happen before they act. Second, these people also feel that using the death penalty is due to deterrent effect, and deterrent effect can prevent crimes. Actually prevention is better than punishing, so deterrent effect is a good way to prevent crimes. Finally, they think that justice requires punishing the guilty person. Justice can not permit sparing some guilty persons, or punishing some innocent ones. People need justice in their societies, and death penalty is one way to vindicate justice.
People who are against the death penalty also have some reasons for their opinions. Firstly, they think that death penalty can not rehabilitate people’s life. The victim is already dead and nobody can bring him or her
back. Then, they also feel that death penalty will increase the number of the innocent person. The chances of error can not avoid because the judgments are based on human. The innocent’s life will loose even if a small mistake occurs in a judgment. Lastly, they also believe that fear of death does not reduce crimes. For instance, history executions are brutal, but crimes are more common at that time than it is now.
In my opinion, I am in favor of the death penalty. Today, there are many pros and cons to this death penalty issues. However, if people weigh the arguments properly, they will be more inclined to favor death penalty. For instance, if there is no death penalty in a country, and a criminal kills someone, it might because he felt he could get out in 20 years or less from prison. There is no fear of death for him; or other criminals; as a result, more people might become criminals. Abolishing the death penalty is not suited anywhere and only way to civilization
