Nowadays, volunteer works are becoming more and
more popular in Canada. Many students are looking for volunteer works as
their personal work experience. In the following paragraphs I will talk
about the benefits of volunteer work and several ways to find a
volunteer job in Vancouver.
There are a lot of advantages of being a volunteer in Canada. First, for
international students, volunteer work is a very good opportunity for
practice your English and makes new friends. You will have a lot of
chance to practice your English and met new people during your work. As
personal experience, when I was a volunteer at BCIT’s open house event
this year, I met a lot of new people who come from 30 difference
countries and they are all the first time come to Vancouver. I
introduced them the most beautiful places in Vancouver and showed them
the pictures. They were so impressed by my topic and start to talk to me
about their traveling experience. Therefore, we become friends as much
as we talked. I also made a lot of new friends with other volunteers.
Second, as a volunteer you can get work experience which is very good
for you future career. You also can add your volunteer work experience
into you resume when looking for a new job. That will be very helpful
because nowadays many companies are looking for peoples’ work experience
when hiring employees. Last but not least, you can improve your
interpersonal skills from volunteer works. Many of my friends who did
volunteer works told me that they learned a lot of things from their
work. For example, you can learn how to get along with their co-works in
the workplace or how to solve the problems when you have conflict with
your boss.
To find a volunteer work in Vancouver is not difficult, and it can be
divided into two ways: surfing on the Internet, and looking for the
newspaper. As this flow chart shows blow, by surfing the internet,
first, you have to find what kind of job that you are interest in. Then,
you can register online by filling in the application, write an e-mail,
or make a phone call. After that, you may need to wait for the company’s
responds. The other way to find a volunteer work is by looking for the
newspaper. There are a lot of volunteer advertisements on the newspaper.
Also, you should choose the job that you are interest in and make a
phone call.
In conclusion, I mentioned about the benefits of
being a volunteer. And I also introduce the two ways to find a volunteer
works in Vancouver. Hopefully, you can get some ideas from my paragraphs
if you want to find a volunteer works this summer in Vancouver.
