My New Country

I would like to say a few words about myself and my study at BCIT.

My family and I came to Canada from Russia nine months ago. It was a great change in our life. What happened with us: we have changed the life full of stress and crime in our country to the life in the peaceful and beautiful British Columbia. Canada impressed me greatly, and first of all, by its' multiculturalism. As a result of the so-called "mosaic" policy I was surprised to find here in Vancouver the onion-domed Russian Orthodox churches, and a lot of people who speak Russian language. But it is still a new country for me. I have to learn a lot about it. Even my profession (I am a mechanical engineer) has some Canadian "specifics". That was the reason why I made my decision to get a Canadian education.

I have chosen BCIT because of its' high reputation as a very technologically advanced institute with very qualified teachers. One day I will have my Mechanical Engineer diploma from BCIT. My first step on this way was attending English classes at BCIT. Students in our group came from Asia, Africa and Europe. And our teacher was a Canadian! It is very interesting to be in a multicultural class. We had the special preparation program in English language. What I liked in my class was the fact that all books and study materials and methods of teaching were all targeted to the BCIT training courses.

It is pleasure and much fun to get to know Canada being a student of BCIT!
